AI in the Trades: Current State and Future Predictions

March 17, 2026

Episode Overview

The trades industry stands at a critical inflection point where artificial intelligence (AI) transforms from experimental technology to essential business infrastructure. Abhishek Mathur, ServiceTitan's Chief Technology & Product Officer, brings a unique perspective shaped by his experience at tech giants Microsoft, Meta, and Figma.

AI isn't replacing tradespeople—it's amplifying their capabilities.

"I think of AI as a force multiplier. It is an accelerant. It is an enabler. With AI, [we] can focus on the core elements of the job and remove the mundane so that human beings can focus on creative problem solving," Mathur explains.

The conversation reveals how contractors are moving beyond AI skepticism toward strategic implementation. During a recent winter storm, ServiceTitan's AI voice agents handled 7,000 calls seamlessly, demonstrating real-world reliability under pressure.

This isn't about flashy demonstrations or theoretical benefits.

Mathur emphasizes practical applications that directly impact daily operations. From intelligent call routing to automated invoicing, AI solutions are proving their worth through measurable efficiency gains and improved customer experiences.

The resistance to AI adoption often stems from fear of the unknown rather than actual limitations of the technology.

"[AI] is becoming so embedded with the way we operate in regular scenarios that it is much more achievable and approachable. I would encourage people who are afraid to have an open mind and start small," Mathur advises.

ServiceTitan's vision extends beyond individual tools to creating an "AI operating system" that provides deeper business insights and acts as a digital chief of staff for contractors.

The window for AI experimentation is rapidly closing as the technology becomes table stakes for competitive advantage.

"I don't think it's an option to not try AI anymore… Figure out how to approach it, how to take small steps, and see what works for your business," Mathur states.
