Lydia Brewster had only one strategy when she recommended ServiceTitan to others in the trades.
“I was just telling people about a product that I love,” she said.
That love is real. Brewster was the winner of ServiceTitan’s referral program in 2024, and was awarded a 2024 Tesla Model 3 for her efforts. Brewster won by simply making the most successful referrals to ServiceTitan.
“I’m not trying to sell anyone on ServiceTitan,” she said of the cloud-based software for the trades. “ServiceTitan sells itself.”
Naomi Mendzer, ServiceTitan’s Senior Earned Marketing Specialist, presented Brewster with her Tesla at the offices of Aqua Clear Water Systems in Lenoir City (near Knoxville), Tennessee. With her team applauding, Brewster took her spot in the driver’s seat, calling the entire experience “amazing.”
“That was such a cool opportunity, a fun prize,” she said. “I've never had anything like that in a referral program before, so it's a super-special opportunity.”
Brewster is the Warehouse, Marketing, Onboarding and Training Manager at Aqua Clear, a family-owned business founded in 2005 and co-owned by her father, David, and mother, Krista. The entire family plays important roles in the business that now has offices in Seiverville, Nashville and Etowah (near Chattanooga). Robert is in sales, Lydia wears several hats; and Jonathan is in digital, technology and innovation.
“All the kids have had a huge impact, but Lydia’s gift is implementation,” said David, who founded the business 19 years ago. “My oldest son, his gift is thinking like a CFO and CEO, and he thinks downstream. Lydia is the implementer. He brings the ideas, and Lydia, before he even gets them out, she's already rolling, getting things done, getting it coordinated, getting it ordered.
“So she's able to build the training, she's able to build the recruiting the way we want it, and she's able to build the processes that we're looking for in ServiceTitan.”
A leap with ServiceTitan
The business added ServiceTitan in 2018, and has not looked back. Krista credits the software with helping revenues jump by at least $1 million annually.
“ServiceTitan has changed our family and our business’s life, and we talk about it all the time,” Lydia said.
Those who refer ServiceTitan earn $500 if the referred company takes a demo, and more if the company joins ServiceTitan. Lydia Brewster saw any referrals she made as simply being a good neighbor.
“There was no strategy in making referrals,” she said. “I think whenever I'm passionate about something, you'll just know.
“So I'm really passionate about water, your water quality.
“I'm absolutely in love with ServiceTitan; it's changed our family and our business's life. I talk about it all the time.
“You'll also know that I love Jesus. I talk about him all the time.
“If you know me, you know what I'm passionate about, and ServiceTitan gets to be a big part of that.”
‘Not telling you for a Tesla’
Brewster said most referrals were a natural byproduct of conversations with other businesses. If they asked her what was working for Aqua Clear, she’d simply mention ServiceTitan, which she called “the best software that’s out there for anybody in the trades.”
“Everyone has a different reason for why they need a new software, and everyone has a different itch they're trying to scratch,” Lydia said. “There is no sales tactic. I literally just tell them how it changed my life.
“I think if you're a part of the ServiceTitan community, if you have ServiceTitan and you want to start referring ServiceTitan to other people, it's an easy conversation.”
Once she makes a referral, she follows up with the business to see if she can help answer questions or with any possible transition. She hopes the contacts she makes with referrals helps that business and Aqua Clear in the future.
“I'm going to be their friend throughout it, right?” she said. “I'm not telling you for the money. I'm not telling you for a Tesla. I'm telling you so that a year, five years from now, you can look back and be like, ‘That was the best thing I ever did for my business.’”
