Simplify, Systemize, Scale: Lessons from Emergency Restoration Services

May 20, 2025

Episode Overview

Restorez Emergency Services CEO Eduard Mirzoian is definitely the first in his industry trade niche to appear on the show. His journey, however, has been similar to so many other CEOs who worked their way up through a family business.

Mirzoian’s company does water, fire and mold restoration services for residential and commercial properties. FYI, to be in this business you’ve got to hone an ability to work between customers and their insurance carriers.

Right before the pandemic, Mirzoian started up a spin-off company from his family’s 20-year-old business. Instead of panicking during COVID, he kept his cool. Six years later, he’s tracking to do close to $24 million in revenue.

His employee list does include some family members, but Mirzoian prefers to think his whole team works “with” him, not “for” him.

“No one in our company works for me, I hate that,” he says. “Everybody works with me. Everybody is my coworker, and that's exactly how it needs to be in every business.”

Mirzoian notes that some companies, and CEOs, start off wanting to do everything for every kind of customer. He believes that’s a recipe for failure.

“If you want to grow, you can't do everything,” he says. You don't get a little golden star if you're the one doing everything right.”

The smarter path to take is to be the best at a few things, and create the processes that enable you to do those things both efficiently and well.

Mirzoian respects processes immensely, but also realizes making good hires and creating a proper culture is paramount.

“When you bring together a group of people that enjoy being around each other, it no longer becomes work,” he says. “That’s how you get a superstar team.”
