Q&A with a Veteran Pantheon Attendee

To give you a better perspective on Pantheon and provide tips and tricks on how to prepare, we sat down with Renee Lenox, Business Operations Manager at Service Specialties, Inc., to talk about the customer experience at Pantheon and how to get the most out of the event.

Lenox, who also serves as president of LadyTitans, ServiceTitan's first customer-led diversity charter, has attended nearly every Pantheon conference since its inception, including the first one when it was still called “Dispatch.” She’s also a featured speaker at this year’s event.

“I joined ServiceTitan in February 2017, then ServiceTitan came out with their first conference that October. Since we were newer, we thought it was a no-brainer to go and see more of the product, to make sure we were utilizing it,” Lenox says, adding that except for missing a couple during COVID and after giving birth to her son, she’s attended every Pantheon since.

Q: What does the evolution of Pantheon look like from your perspective?

A: Definitely the size, just the massiveness. They do it bigger and better every year. I just think it keeps improving, keeps getting a little bigger, a little better.

Q: How do you prepare for attending Pantheon?

A: It's better to not show up and then go, ‘OK, let me look at the agenda. What sessions am I going to go to?’ Because of the size alone, it can be overwhelming, especially if it's your first one. So, be a little more prepared and look at the sessions.

I print everything out. I go through the whole list and I highlight every session that talks to me a little bit. And then probably about a month before, I’ll talk with the team and see if there are areas that we feel like as a company I should focus on. If there are three sessions in one time block, and you're the only person going, what makes the most sense to go to?

So, getting the team involved, really looking at the session time blocks, what speaks to you, what doesn't, where your company’s at, maybe where you’re at in your current position, and trying to prepare that way, so you already know what your game plan is before you even get there.

Q: How does your shop prepare for those key players to be out at a conference?

A: I live and breathe overpreparedness, so I look at what can wait, what can't wait, and I'm all about leveling people up. So, when you do have key players out, it's a really good time to give people the opportunity to step in your shoes.

But at the end of the day, knowing, ‘Hey, during the normal business day I'm not going to be very available, but in case of emergency, here's the protocol on what to do if you do need to get in touch with me.’ But just putting the trust in your team members and trying to level them up. I'm all about managing up versus trying to find someone to manage down.

Q: What do you pack to survive these long conference days?

A: There's a lot of swag opportunities. Definitely bring an empty suitcase or a big suitcase that you pack lightly on the way there and have some extra room to be able to put some fun things in. And comfortable shoes. You're going to be doing a lot of walking, a lot of standing.

So, bring comfortable shoes, comfortable clothes, and a light jacket. We all know hotels and conference rooms can get a little chilly. I also recommend bringing a backpack.

Also, bring Advil. You're going to want that. Whether it's for all the walking or for the next day after the party, you might need some Advil.

Q: It's day one at Pantheon. What are you making sure that you're doing on day one?

A: If I've done my job of preparing myself, then it's really kind of feeling it out the first day. Show up, get your badge, get comfortable, get the lay of the land. Because, again, convention centers can be pretty large. It’s knowing where I need to go, where all of the different areas are, locating the water stations, etc.

ServiceTitan backpacks will be given to all attendees this year, so if you’re bringing a backpack, know that you might be coming home with an extra one. And if you have a favorite water bottle, bring that with you, too.

I like seeing what I'm getting myself into. Just kind of take it in and then really be ready to roll the next day.”

Q: What relationships or connections have you built at Pantheon?

A: At the first or second Pantheon, my CSM (Customer Success Manager) hooked me up with another one of her clients, Jessica Woodruff Smith (AirWorks Solutions Process Manager and also a ServiceTitan power user).

And Jess and I still talk pretty regularly today. She's also on the LadyTitans board with me. She's the co-founder of LadyTitans, so she’s an awesome person to know and she knows a lot of people as well.

I also do Torch and Spark sessions, so I’ve developed relationships with a lot of ServiceTitan team leaders.

Q: How has being a Torchy at Pantheon changed that experience?

A: That exclusive Torch swag you get! And we do the game show. We even made a group called the Torchettes. But really it's just a way to be surrounded by people who have similar experiences in ServiceTitan, another way to network, and it helps level up the Pantheon experience.

Q: Pantheon's over. What's something you're going to do, and how do you decide what features you want to implement first after the conference?

A: You're pretty hyped up when you come back from ServiceTitan. My dad's the owner [of Service Specialties, Inc.), so he already knows that when I come back I'm ready to maybe cause a little chaos, maybe make some changes.

I have this idea of the one-week, 30-day, 90-day plan, and beyond. If there's something that has a really low impact on our team, turn it on, see what happens. That should be like within one week, let's get these done. It's not a lot of setup, it's not a lot of impact, let's get them going.

For other changes, the ones that have a higher impact on my team, those might be part of a 30-day goal. Before I implement it, I need to make sure the managers are involved and maybe have a team training session.

I also advise sending someone who is open-minded to Pantheon, because change is hard. If you do go close-minded and you're like, ‘I'll never use that feature or anything of that nature,’ you're not going to get as much out of Pantheon.

It’s sending someone who’s open-minded, then coming back and kind of digesting everything, and then putting the things I looked at into play. I want to do this within the next week. I want to do these things within the next 30 days. And then these things might be more of a 90-day project or beyond, depending on the time of year and where you're at in your business.”

Q: What business impact has implementing some of those features that you learned at past Pantheons done for your business?

A: It’s all about efficiency. For a lot of ServiceTitan users, you don’t know what you don’t know.

As you start growing your understanding of ServiceTitan, you can start implementing more advanced features. So, it's really doing the networking, going to the sessions, learning what you don't know, coming back, and being able to have this list of things that two days ago you had no idea even existed.

Every time I come back from Pantheon, I always see an uptick in efficiency or productivity in the team.
