About the survey

ServiceTitan surveyed 1,032 commercial and residential contractors across seven trades including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing, garage door, pest control, and commercial landscaping. Respondents included company leadership, office staff, and field technicians.

Where does AI adoption stand in the trades?

Two-thirds of contractors (66%) expect AI to bring moderate or major transformation to their businesses within one to three years. But adoption hasn't caught up to that expectation yet. Only 12% have embedded AI into their operations today, and 34% are actively experimenting. The report digs into what's driving the gap and which types of contractors are moving fastest.

What results are contractors seeing from AI?

Among contractors already using AI, 62% report measurable gains in efficiency and productivity, with many saving three or more hours per week. Efficiency ranked as the top expected benefit (74%), followed by better decision-making (51%) and cost reduction (48%). The full report breaks down expected versus realized benefits and includes case studies showing specific revenue impacts.

What's holding contractors back from AI?

The top obstacles aren't about the technology itself. Lack of training (44%) and integration complexity (44%) lead the list, followed by difficulty understanding AI tools (38%) and unclear ROI (37%). Notably, only 18% cited employee resistance. The report examines what these barriers mean in practice and how contractors are overcoming them.
