From Whiteboard to $30M: Scaling a Roofing Company From Scratch

September 9, 2025

Episode Overview

It stands to reason that a natural disaster like a tornado could cause a roofing company to see a big bump in revenue. That was the case for Summit Roofing & Restoration in Atoka, Tennessee.

Motivation to get their hometown back in shape was a factor for company CEO Doug Greenhaw and COO Justin Guinnip. With all hands on board, the company saw a boost to $18 million in annual revenue.

In the aftermath, Greenhaw and Guinnip decided to challenge themselves and become early adopters of ServiceTitan in the roofing industry.

Their major technology investment came with a lot of advice from industry experts. Today, they’re happy to turn around and also share what they’ve learned.

“I used to assume that everything was top secret and nobody shared anything,” Greenhaw says. “I eventually realized that was wrong, and that's been a big part of our growth, other people helping us.”

Greenhaw says owning a business doesn’t mean you have to know everything.

“But  you're going to run into things that you have no clue what to do with,” he says. “You may know a lot about a lot of things, but you can't master everything.”

Guinnip says ServiceTitan was a challenge (after adjusting from using a whiteboard for tracking), but a worthy one to master.

“If you're going to jump on [ServiceTitan], you have to be open to change,” he says. “If you're not open to change… you're not going to accept the things that people are telling you that you need to do.”

Case in point: Contact Center Pro.

“ We used to think that we answered every phone call,” Guinnip says. “We found out very quickly, once we got on Contact Center Pro, that that wasn't the case. There's no telling how much money we've had in lost revenue from just not being able to see phone calls.”

Doug Greenhaw and Justin Guinnip recently joined ServiceTitan’s Jackie Aubel on the “Toolbox for the Trades” podcast, which included Greenhaw and Guinnip’s thoughts on:
