At ServiceTitan, it's time for a celebratory dinner.

The cloud-based software for the trades, founded by Ara Mahdessian and Vahe Kuzoyan and based in Glendale, Calif., is No. 11 in Forbes’ Cloud 100 for 2020, which honors the world’s top private cloud companies. That’s up from No. 14 in 2019.

The restaurant might be chosen based on a website from site builder Squarespace (No. 18) or visual web development company Webflow (No. 97). Everything about the restaurant, from online ordering to contactless payments, could be run through Toast, a restaurant software business ranked No. 10.

Online payments company Stripe, No. 2 after two years in the top spot, could play a big role in how the bill is paid.

And part of the table discussion? New No. 1 Snowflake, the data platform that only paused in the top spot long enough to reach IPO in mid-September, when it reached a $70 billion valuation.

That’s heady company.

The #1 newsletter for the trades.

But the guests of honor are ServiceTitan’s more than 1,000 employees who have embraced the mission of making home and commercial services companies successful — and the 5,000 customers who have chosen ServiceTitan.

Those companies represent thousands of workers in the trades who use the software to provide a customer experience that is both excellent and essential during a global pandemic.

As Mahdessian said in a YouTube interview, “This recognition honors the criticality, nobility and the value of the work they do.”

That nobility is embodied by Mahdessian and Kuzoyan’s parents, first-generation immigrants who work in the trades.

The two California software engineers watched as other industries improved efficiency through technology and automation, while the trades stood, as Mahdessian said, “frozen in time.”

They built ServiceTitan to change their parents’ lives and the lives of thousands of other contractors like them.

“We realized that much of the unnecessary work they were doing could be automated,” Mahdessian said. “They could spend that time making more money, or spending more time with their hobbies and their families.”

ServiceTitan has done that for thousands of contractors by changing the contracting game.

We want to help as many contractors and as many home and commercial services businesses as we can. One of the key areas of focus is, how do we change the lives of more and more contractors? We want to make sure we take care of every need that they have.”

“Who would have thought that the work our parents did to put food on the table one generation later would be our quote-unquote multi-billion dollar opportunity,” Mahdessian said.

For that to happen, there is more work to be done, Mahdessian said.

“We want to help as many contractors and as many home and commercial services businesses as we can,” he said. “One of the key areas of focus is, how do we change the lives of more and more contractors? We want to make sure we take care of every need that they have.”

That, of course, would make dinner more leisurely for everyone in the trades. And that’s always a cause for celebration.
